Vintage Picnic

23 Jul

What’s that I see there in the sky?….a burning ball of yellow! My gosh summer is here (finally). Daydreaming of hazy evening picnics is slowly turning into a reality.

Here’s my vintage picnic wish list and essential items

1. The Hamper

I think this beautiful hamper speaks for itself.

2. The Dress

Beautiful glamourous dresses by I’ve been dreaming about getting my wobbly bits into one of these for to long!…. Hurry up payday.

3. Food

What’s more classic than homemade scones and strawberry jam. My delightfully yummy scone recipe is on a previous post. Here’s an easy peasy jam recipe:
– 400g strawberries cut in half
– 450g caster sugar
– 4 tsp fresh lemon juice
Place the strawberries and sugar into a medium size saucepan. Bring to a simmer stirring frequently. Continue to simmer for 1 hr stirring occasionally. Once thick or to the constancy you like add the lemon juice and pour into sterilised jam jars.

4. Crockery

This wonderful website has some fabulous vintage crockery to make your picnic extra special.

5. Games

Egg and spoon races, sack race and pass the parcel!!

I’m over come with excitement…..Vintage picnic organising starts now. Anybody like to come?!

Amazing exhibitions you cannot miss

11 Jul

Holy moly these exhibitions are going straight into my diary! Hope you are inspired to do the same!

POP! Design Culture Fashion
The Fashion and Textile Museum, London

‘In the 1950s a new wave of rock-n-roll and youth culture from America swept the country and the world. The mix of popular images and music with art and fashion would change the way people dressed – blurring the boundaries of commerce, culture and style.

POP! will explore the impact of music, art and personality on the development of the fashion of the times. From the poodle skirts and embellished leathers of the rockers through to the Punk era, this exhibition will take in the cool stylings of the Mods, the high baroque of Psychedelia and the kitsch glamour of 70s retro by designers such as Mr Freedom and Miss Mouse.’

Exhibition Dates: 6 Jul – 27 Oct 2012

Ticket Price:
£7 for adults
£5 for students and concessions

New dress love

24 Jun

I’ve just had a marvellous afternoon at the Pop Up Vintage Fair held at Islington Town Hall. I absolutely loved browsing the eclectic stalls and immersing myself in their vintage delights.
Me heading to the fair in my favourite tee dress

One of the stalls I couldn’t keep my eyes off was Darlings Vintage. They had the most beautiful 40’s/50’s dresses on offer. I wanted ALL of them but the purse strings wouldn’t allow. I decided to go for this lovely piece.

I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! Unfortunately it is a tad small, big boobs are a curse let me tell you, so my project is to alter it with the help of Bertha (my red mean sewing machine). I can’t wait to wear it to my next vintage affair!

Thanks to Darlings Vintage for being so lovely : )
Over and out vintage lovers

Books glorious books!

21 Jun

Hello bloggers! Just thought I’d share some of the marvellous books I have on my shelf at the moment.

The Vintage Tea Party by Angel Adoree

This truly is a gem of a book! I was thrilled when it finally landed on my door mat and proceeded to ignore my boyfriend for 2 days engrossed in its loveliness!
Every page is beautifully designed and filled with a variety of vintage party ideas, quirky illustrations and mouth watering recipes.
This is a keeper on my bookshelf and if you’re a vintage lover like me you need this book in your life!

A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff

I found this book in my local charity shop and was instantly attracted by its cover. It’s been the perfect commuter buddy with its engaging storyline and distinctive characters…..oh and it’s based around a vintage shop : )

Style me Vintage: Makeup by Katie Reynolds

Great coffee table book. Looks gorgeous with simple step by step instructions to get the perfect vintage look. Fabulous!

Red Velvet Chocolate Heartache by Harry Eastwood

You certainly won’t have any heartache with this beauty! The recipes are delicious….and….wait for it….they are made with vegetables! The orange squash cupcakes are a firm favourite in our house. I adore the photos and the quirky introduction to each recipe. I never feel naughty eating one of these cakes, one of your 5 a day right?!

A very Vintage Affair

28 Apr

With a gasp of joy and utter excitement I woke this morning knowing I was heading to The Shorditch Vintage Fair held at Shorditch town hall.

When we arrived we were met with a single room of gorgeousness and hidden gems. My brain went slightly insane at this point and I wasn’t sure how I, or my bank balance, we’re going to handle it! After giving myself a could talking to and a budget of £20 I was skipping into vintage heaven!

Believe it or not (& my boyfriend couldn’t) I spent £19 of my £20 budget! Here’s the beauties I bagged:

The £2 bag

The £5 dress

My beautiful £12 1950’s necklace

Once I was spent up we headed to the vintage tea room for tea and cake. Served in beautiful vintage crockery it was a delicious way to end a very vintage afternoon.

Wam Bam thank you mam!

11 Apr

What a truly fantastic week I’ve just had! Turning 30 hasn’t been bad at all. Grey hair and wrinkles haven’t even had time to enter my head.

I was treated by my wonderful boyfriend to a night at the Wam Bam Club held at the impressive Cafe de Paris in London’s Piccadilly. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW…….when can I go again. It was a night of sensory overload with a lovely 3 course meal, comedy, cabaret and of course plenty BURLESQUE : )

All the acts were sexy, sassy, confident and creative which lead to a truly electric night. The evening was hosted by the superb Lady Alex who’s enthusiasm and naughtiness made the experience fun and very memorable.

For me the burlesque acts stole the show and left me wanting more and also wanting to be a burlesque babe myself. I was very tempted when a lovely girl came round after the show to sell nipple tassels! If only they made them for big boobs!

All in all it was a 1st class experience that I would highly recommend.

Over and out.
